Conventional expectations

There are so many expectations in society to live a certain way. And while no one is really telling us how to live our life, the comments do appear from time to time and are not always easy to swallow.

One thing for sure is that I’m super grateful for my tribe – a group of strong, independent women who are all different, but supportive of one another’s choices. I love and cherish every single one of them – even when we have completely different opinions.

Yet sometimes, it doesn’t make it any easier to bat off the occasional comments or messages we hear in society.

It might be when we’re sitting alone, reading an article or subway advertisement (with secretly submissive messages), or simply overhearing a conversation.

But gone are the days when being a lawyer means corporate suits and pencil skirts, or by a certain age you should be married with two children, or when you do have children, you need to act a certain way.

Being different is what makes us all special – and it’s our differences that make the world a better place.

There are truly no hard and fast rules about how you need to dress in a certain job, do your hair, or when you should settle down.

Despite the global pandemic happening right now, there is something I do love about 2020. That is, while conventional expectations do still exist in society, every year, more and more women are feeling empowered to challenge them.

For it is being different that makes us all special – and especially right now, more than ever, it’s our differences that make the world a better place.

What do you love most about 2020? I’d love to hear your thoughts below.
